Improving School Relations
I believe that good schools are at the heart of a healthy city. As a teacher in the public school system, I will work to get my fellow Councilmembers to better understand this. An American without a high school diploma is at risk for life. Access to a quality public education is a basic human right. The City Council should take some responsibility for the budget allotted to our schools. I believe ALL children deserve an equal opportunity to succeed in life and education is the key that unlocks the door to success. I would like to provide a better educational experience for all of our children, which will require teamwork among the Champion School, Stone Mountain Elementary, the Sue Kellogg Library, and our Human Services programs. We should work with our citizens to improve their job skills, adapt to technological advances and pursue entrepreneurial ambitions.

I will:
- Encourage the City Council to take more responsibility for our school related issues, and become more proactive in discussions with school administration.
- Work to build a stronger team relationship between the City Council, Educational Services, and other programs that support our families and youth.
- Require everyone to share the uncompromising insistence that our public school system must be, and can be, good enough for all students to succeed.
- Plan for a city wide volunteer program that will actually put the talents of our citizens to work for the betterment of our city.
- Begin a "Hope" project that will encourage students to do homework and projects in a facility provided by the city after school.
