Improving communication between City Council and Citizens of Stone Mountain
Since I was young, I have always been involved with activities in Stone Mountain. As a City Council member, I will serve the public and will not take them for granted. There is a lack of involvement from the public during Council meetings, and I believe it is due to the lack of communication between the Council and citizens. We need to recognize that Internet and email are an increasingly popular method for people to communicate and should use that to the city's advantage. In the past, there have been numerous times where City Council members have ignored suggestions from the citizens. I know because it has happened to me. The city needs repairs but when presented to City officials they are ignored. Citizens' complaints about the uneven or damaged sidewalks in some neighborhoods that pose safety issues are ignored. The city policy concerning traffic that cuts through many city neighborhoods is inadequate but many complain. The PATH trail for bicycle traffic needs additional routes to secure safety, but is not seen by city officials to be beneficial. There are a number of vacant properties that could be used but are ignored due to one sighted thinking of city officials. I will have an open door policy to all suggestions and concerns, and I will try my best to implement them accordingly.

I will:
- Communicate proactively using email, Facebook, committee meetings, and similar public venues to interact directly with Stone Mountain residents and members of the business community.
- Support citizens' efforts to get honest, prompt, and complete responses from City Hall on public information, such as city planning and development.
- Expedite information on the city’s spending, so citizens may voice their considerations on future developments before voting occurs.
- Develop and implement a plan to utilize our city’s historic areas to share our small town values and history.
